A Teacher And Her Husband Now Have $0 Monthly Payments After Working With ISLS.
It’s Like an Early Christmas Present!
Kristen Costa decided to go back to school to get her Master’s Degree in Education. She went back simply to better herself, knowing full well that the additional student loan debt wouldn’t be covered by an increase in salary. In fact, quite the opposite was true. Her Superintendent sent an email to all district employees about Innovative Student Loan Solutions (ISLS) and the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. Here is Kristen’s story:
“I am thankful that Dr. Jay Badams took the time to investigate this benefit, and share the information with us. Staff satisfaction and morale are really important to him. It is reassuring that he cares about us.
When the email came through our HR department, I looked at it and thought it was interesting. I figured they had done some digging to make sure ISLS was legitimate because they don’t usually send just anything out. I thought, what did I have to lose?
I knew a little about PSLF because my husband was in the program. I figured I didn’t have anything to lose so I clicked the link and scheduled an appointment. I talked to my Advisor, Steve, three days before graduating. He was really thorough and gave me great information. To be honest, I was a little hesitant at first, but he wasn’t like a regular salesman. He just thoroughly explained the program and the benefit of working with ISLS to make sure that everything was done right.
At the time my husband was making about a $214.00 payment towards the PSLF program. We just assumed that was the right amount because that is what the loan servicer told him. Steve offered to double check the numbers and make sure that was the lowest possible payment he could make. After Steve ran the numbers it turned out that my husband was eligible for a $0 monthly payment. He had been overpaying the whole time! On top of that good news I found out that I would have a $0 payment as well. It was just a couple of weeks before Christmas and I felt like this was an early present. I knew then that ISLS was handling this for us from now on.
I have told everyone I work with about my experience with ISLS. I really want people to get relief from their debt like we did. By working with Steve and my Solutions Rep., Will, I am able to pay for more activities for my kids, and I don’t worry as much about finances as I used to. I feel that because I don’t have to worry about money as much, I am a better person; better to my staff, better to my kids…just better overall.”
